The Kilgore recycling facility that Longview had worked with for about 12 years will not rebuild after a fire destroyed it this past year.
Following the fire in June 2024, Rivers Recycling President Jeff Craine said the facility would rebuild and reopen this year.
However, Longview Public Works Director Dwayne Archer recently notified the City Council that the facility would not rebuild after all.
性视界传媒淚n a significant change to the recycling efforts in our area, we have been informed that Rivers Recycling will not be able to rebuild their facility in Kilgore. This will leave us with only NETX as our area性视界传媒檚 sole source of recyclable materials processing,性视界传媒 Archer told the council.
Craine confirmed that this week.
性视界传媒淭he cost of the project became too much,性视界传媒 he said.
He pointed to the expense of equipment, particularly given steel tariffs implemented by the Trump administration, and technology. There wouldn性视界传媒檛 have been enough volume to support the business, he said.
性视界传媒淚t was a very tough decision,性视界传媒 Craine said.
The Longview City Council previously agreed to a contract with Northeast Texas MRF in Kilgore to take the recyclables the city collects curbside.
A June 2 tentative start date has been to restart curbside recycling in Longview.
