Family opens mall toy store
A family with longtime ties to the Longview Mall has opened Toy Rush, which is near the main entrance.聽
Tariq "Ricky" Bashir has been operating businesses in the mall for more than 20 years. In addition to Toy Rush, he owns a candy store called Sugar Rush and the pretzel and lemonade eatery Auntie Anne's. He's also operated other businesses in the mall.
His daughter, Jaisha Bashir, a University of Texas at Tyler marketing graduate, is managing the toy store. She selected the items in the store and designed the displays
"We wanted to bring a fun toy store to the mall because there aren't any toys stores around anymore," Jaisha said.
Toy Rush features toys and items for children up to ages 14 or 15, including classic Lego sets, Labubus, snuggly plush toys, toy-themed candy and large motorized ride-on cars. A corner of the store is dedicated to children's books. Crafts, Montessori toys, fidget toys, and action figures also fill the shelves.聽 Snacks and items for parents are part of the store, too, including Stanley cups, tumblers, keychains and other items.
Ricky Bashir came to the United States from Pakistan more than 20 years ago, saved up and later brought his wife and, at that time, two children, to join him, legally, Jaisha said. Jaisha was born here. All of the children worked in the family businesses until Jaisha's siblings went to college and became doctors.
The mall has been a good place to run his businesses, Ricky said.
"I raised my kids and gave them a good education," by having his businesses at the mall, he said.
Toy Rush provides interactive play areas for children visiting the store.
"The only (place) people had to buy toys were like Walmart and Target.... Jaisha said. "So we wanted to have an active store," and there are interactive things to do there, including a craft table, hopscotch on the floor and a sensory table.
