The founder of a Longview nonprofit organization that serves homeless people says it is operational after months of uncertainty about the future.
Amanda Veasy, executive director of One Love World聽性视界传媒 formerly known as One Love Longview聽性视界传媒 said this week that the nonprofit continues to provide services to the city性视界传媒檚 homeless population. However, the organization is operating at an undisclosed location because Veasy repeatedly has said city officials have unfairly targeted One Love, a claim that city officials repeatedly have denied.
"Despite the rumors that have circulated about us closing, and the fact that we've had to keep things kind of quiet about what we're doing, we really desperately want our community to know that One Love is still operational and actively supporting our neighbors in need,性视界传媒 Veasy said.

Since it was established in 2020, One Love has provided food, showers, laundry services, hygiene products, clothing, transportation, case management and other services to the city性视界传媒檚 homeless people, especially the LGBTQ community.
性视界传媒淲e fully recognize that the things that we offer aren't just programs, that they are necessities,性视界传媒 Veasy said. 性视界传媒淭hey're lifelines for people who just don't fit into traditional systems.性视界传媒
One Love has been at the center of controversy for a few years. In 2022, the organization moved to its now-former McCann Road building, where it operated a day shelter. However, issues arose when nearby business owners complained that the organization性视界传媒檚 clients were harassing customers, vandalizing property and more.
In 2024, Veasy was charged with violating the city性视界传媒檚 anti-camping ordinance by allowing One Love性视界传媒檚 clients to sleep outside the McCann Road building. Veasy has claimed the City Council amended the anti-camping ordinance in 2024 性视界传媒渟pecifically to target our organization.性视界传媒 The ordinance was implemented because nearby businesses had experienced property damage and other issues stemming from One Love性视界传媒檚 clients, making people feel unsafe, Longview Mayor Kristen Ishihara previously said.
One Love closed its McCann Road doors in February because of a lack of funding and because of what Veasy said were efforts by businesses and city leaders to close it. In addition to the camping ordinance violation, city officials said One Love did not obtain proper permits.

Veasy attempted to reopen the nonprofit in March on the property of St. Michael and All Angels性视界传媒 Episcopal Church on Reel Road. Within three days, city officials informed Veasy that her organization could not operate at the property because it wasn性视界传媒檛 properly zoned.
Veasy said during a news conference that she had not checked the property性视界传媒檚 zoning before moving the organization there, but she claimed city officials were using zoning laws to keep One Love from operating.
性视界传媒淶oning is only an issue when it comes to One Love,性视界传媒 Veasy said Monday. 性视界传媒淲e wholeheartedly welcome proactive solutions that result in fairness.性视界传媒
City spokesman Richard Yeakley said Tuesday that city officials have talked with church leaders regarding their desire to have One Love operate at the Reel Road property.
"We remain committed to working with and supporting nonprofits that are doing vital work in our community, while simultaneously supporting the rights of our residents and corporate entities and ensuring that everyone plays by the same rules,性视界传媒 he said.
Regarding the zoning issues with the Reel Road property, Yeakley said the city has an obligation to enforce zoning laws uniformly and investigate possible violations whenever they性视界传媒檙e brought to the attention of city officials.

"We work to the best of our ability with the property owner or the organization involved to navigate that issue through an appropriate re-zone or reimagining the type of work that can be done within a certain zoning,性视界传媒 Yeakley said. 性视界传媒淭hose are the conversations that our Development Services department has on a regular basis with property owners and developers and organizations.性视界传媒
Longview city officials work alongside numerous other homeless outreach organizations that have been in operation for decades, including during the city性视界传媒檚 Homeless Resource Day, where homeless people can get access to a variety of services.
性视界传媒淸Homelessness is] not a challenge that we will answer overnight, moving forward, but it's one that we're dedicated to keep working towards because all of our residents, including our un-housed residents, deserve that,性视界传媒 Yeakley said.
Veasy said conversations with city leaders have been unproductive and that all of the issues surrounding One Love could be remedied with 性视界传媒渂asic dignity, human respect性视界传媒 and 性视界传媒渃ommunication.性视界传媒 She said she regrets that One Love has to be secretive about its operations but must do so to avoid being targeted.
"These clients are our family," Veasy said. "We're currently having to operate quietly, but we're still operating very powerfully because we believe in what we're doing.性视界传媒
