Two city of Longview sanitation trucks are sporting new looks thanks to the creative work of students from and 聽schools and Art Trucks program.
The rolling masterpieces were unveiled Monday at the two Longview ISD campuses when the young artists found out for the first time whose artwork had been chosen out of the hundreds of pieces submitted.
At Hudson PEP, fifth-grader Lucy Tubb said she spent two days working on her drawing that incorporates the city性视界传媒檚 water tower and pine trees as well as a squirrel tossing litter into a trash can.
Olivia Liu said she worked all night the evening before it was due on her colored-pencil drawing of people picking up trash in downtown Longview. Her last-minute effort paid off, and the excited third-grader jumped for joy as her work was revealed on the side of the truck.

Fellow third grader Allie Huntsinger jumped into her father Casey性视界传媒檚 arms after seeing her own colorful artwork uncovered.
Allie聽said she picks up glass and water bottles on the playground, and that inspired her piece.

Earlier Monday, eighth-grader Michelle Gholson性视界传媒檚 abstract 性视界传媒淩ecycle, Reduce, Reuse性视界传媒 artwork was unveiled at Foster Middle School.

Hudson PEP principal Christy Scott said she was proud of her three students for their work.
性视界传媒淚t says a lot about their artistic abilities,性视界传媒 said Scott, 性视界传媒渁nd also about their art teacher, Claire Holdridge, who has been working with them. I know she性视界传媒檚 super proud of them, too.性视界传媒
After being selected, the students' artworks were reproduced on 4-foot-by-10-foot vinyl wraps that were then installed on each side of the sanitation trucks where they are expected to remain for at least three to five years聽性视界传媒 or even longer depending on how well they hold up.
Solid Waste Supervisor Courtney Nesbitt said the city has 18 trucks that have been decorated by the program since its inception.
The Art Trucks program began in 2015 as a partnership between Keep Longview Beautiful and the city of Longview's Sanitation and Recycling Division in an effort to improve quality of life and enhance community spirit. The program is open to Longview students from kindergarten through 12th grades.
