Desmond Mills Jr., along with four other former Memphis Police officers, has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping, among other charges, in the death of Tyre Nichols.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sentencings have again been postponed for five former Memphis Police officers federally convicted in a trial related to the death of Tyre Nichols.聽

Desmond Mills Jr., who accepted a plea deal prior to the federal trial, was set to be sentenced Monday, June 23. Mills pleaded guilty to using excessive force聽and failing to intervene in the unlawful assault and to聽conspiring to cover up his use of unlawful force by omitting material information and by providing false and misleading information to his supervisor and to others. Prosecutors previously said they would recommend a 15-year prison sentence for Mills, who testified at the federal and state trials of three of those former officers.聽

Instead of a Monday sentencing, Mills and the other former officers involved in the deadly beating of Tyre Nichols性视界传媒擩ustin Smith, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Emmitt Martin, who also accepted a plea deal on federal charges性视界传媒攚ill likely be sentenced in the fall of 2025, according to Sheryl H. Lipman.聽

Lipman took over the case after the abrupt recusal of Judge Mark Norris, who presided over the federal trial. Norris' recusal came two days before Smith and Bean were scheduled to be sentenced. Due to Norris' recusal, all sentencings were postponed.聽
