There are still plenty of Thanksgiving food boxes available for distribution on Nov. 23, but to receive one, you need to get signed up.
The Rogersville-based Christian nonprofit organization People Loving People is once again partnering with the Of One Accord ministry to provide Hawkins County families in need with all the fixings to serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
They have 750 food boxes ready for distribution on Nov. 23 at Cherokee High School, but as of Monday only about 425 families had signed up.
Of One Accord Director Sheldon Livesay urges families to get signed up as soon as possible. Applications are available in Rogersville at the front desk of The Shepherd性视界传媒檚 Center, 306 East Main St., and at the Church Hill emergency food pantry in the Church Hill Shopping Center on Richmond Street.
Applicants fill out the form and take a section of the documentation with them to present when they go to pick up their boxes on Nov. 23.
Before the pandemic hit, People Loving People launched a mammoth endeavor each year to cook and provide upward of 5,000 hot Thanksgiving meals that could be eaten on-site at Joseph Rogers Elementary School or delivered by the hands of hundreds of volunteers.
In 2020, the dangers of COVID-19 stopped on-site distribution, which led People Loving People to team up with Of One Accord and Second Harvest Food Bank to distribute Thanksgiving food boxes for families to prepare at home.
The distribution takes place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so it is essential that families in need of assistance fill out the short application that includes a coupon on the bottom that serves as a ticket for receiving a Thanksgiving food box.
