A relative of the Georgia high school shooting suspect says the teenagerÐÔÊӽ紫ý™s mother called the school before the killings. Annie Brown, the suspectÐÔÊӽ紫ý™s aunt, told the Washington Post that his mother called Apalachee High School about 30 minutes before the Wednesday shooting to warn them of an emergency involving her son. Brown has confirmed the reporting to The Associated Press but declined to comment further. Her nephew, 14-year-old Colt Gray, has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of two students and two teachers. His father, Colin Gray, is accused of second-degree murder for providing his son with a semiautomatic AR 15-style rifle. Their attorneys declined to immediately seek bail during their first court appearance on Friday.

Aryna Sabalenka has defeated Jessica Pegula 7-5, 7-5 in the U.S. Open women's final to win her first championship at Flushing Meadows and second Grand Slam title of the year. The victory on Saturday allowed the second-seeded Sabalenka to add to the trophy she earned at the Australian Open in January. Sabalenka is a 26-year-old from Belarus who was the runner-up to Coco Gauff at last year's U.S. Open. The sixth-seeded Pegula is from New York and was participating in a major final for the first time at age 30. Pegula has won 15 of her past 17 matches over the past month but both losses came against Sabalenka, including in the final of the Cincinnati Open.
